Franc Požgan obtained his PhD in chemistry at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2002, under the supervision of Professor Marijan Kočevar. In the period 2006–2008 he spent two years as a Marie Curie post-doctoral fellow in the group of Professor Pierre H. Dixneuf (Université de Rennes, France) working on the design of metal catalysts in alkene metathesis, and Ru- or Pd-catalyzed direct arylation via C–H bond activation. In 2009, he became an Assistant Professor, in 2016 an Associate Professor, and Full Professor in 2021 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana. His main research interests involve catalytic transformations of heterocycle-containing compounds. He is particularly interested in transition metal-catalyzed C–C bond formation by respecting green chemistry principles to obtain complex molecular architectures from simple precursors.
