In Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis an organocatalyzed Michael addition of N-substituted tetramic acids to nitroalkene acceptors followed by O-alkylation to give polyfunctionalized tetramic acids has been presented. Moreover, quantum chemical methods provided the mechanistic insights of the studied transformation. Additionally, a comparative study of the alkylation of a selected tetramic and tetronic acid with trans-β-nitrostyrene is disclosed.
In Catalysts a total of 24 novel organocatalysts based on (S)-quininamine as a chiral tertiary amine and on enaminone or 1,2-benzenediamine as hydrogen bond donors were synthesized. Their organocatalytic activity was evaluated in the Michael addition of acetylacetone to trans-β-nitrostyrene and the enantioselectivities of up to 72% ee were observed.

A new article has been published in Molecules describing in silico evaluation of various regioisomeric 5- and 3-hydroxy-substituted alkyl 1-aryl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylates and their acyclic precursors yielded promising results with respect to their binding in the active site of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase of Plasmodium falciparum (PfDHODH).

A novel article has been published in Dyes and Pigments descibing a series of 2-acyl-6,7-dihydro-1H,5H-pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazole derivatives synthesized by using a copper-catalyzed azomethine-imine-alkyne cycloaddition as versatile fluorescent probes with a remarkably large Stokes shift.
